Maintenance & Management
Our expert maintenance and management team utilizes improved forestry practices and techniques to ensure the long-term survival and quality of our plantation’s trees. With the assistance of drone imagery and frequent field visits, the plantations are monitored and maintained and our team generates progress reports and environmental impact statements.
Preparation:
Our partners grow and nurture the teak saplings in their nurseries while we prep and weed our land for planting.
Planting:
During the rainy season, our management team hand plants 1100 saplings per hectare. This high density planting strategy will allow for our teak trees to grow tall and straight.
Thinning:
Teak requires regular thinning at various stages of growth. The first thinning is done around year 4 when the branches start touching the surrounding trees. At year 8, our trees are thinned more aggressively to 800 tress per hectare. Additional thinnings are done around year 15 (optional), 18 and then the final harvest at year 25. The year may change accordingly to the advisement of our forestry management.
Harvesting:
A teak tree reaches maturity at age 25 (the year may change accordingly to the advisement of our forestry management) and can then be harvested or left to continue to grow to 50-60 years of age.
Replanting:
After harvesting, Forest Teak restarts the process of replanting.
